Circumferential Tummy Tuck
Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in Austin, TX, San Antonio, TX and Westlake Hills, TX

A circumferential tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a body contouring procedure that addresses excess skin around the entire midsection. (1) Weight loss, pregnancy, and aging can result in loose skin, weakened abdominal muscles, and excess fat that is difficult to address with a healthy diet and regular exercise. While a traditional tummy tuck focuses on removing excess skin from the front of the abdomen, a circumferential tummy tuck removes excess skin from more areas of the torso to sculpt your figure, lift and shape your buttocks as well.

About Circumferential Tummy Tuck
The circumferential tummy tuck is designed to dramatically reshape the entire midsection. It involves removing excess skin and fat from the front, sides, and back of the torso while tightening underlying muscles. This procedure is ideal for patients who have been pregnant, have lost a substantial amount of weight, or have experienced other changes in body composition that led to sagging skin and stubborn fat deposits. When patients have significant excess skin of the abdomen, back, and buttocks, the circumferential tummy tuck can create a 360-degree body contouring to create a total torso transformation.
By extending beyond a standard tummy tuck, this technique allows surgeons to target a broader area, offering a complete 360-degree refinement of the body’s core. This total torso transformation has become critically important in the setting of GLP-1 weight loss, resulting in what has been colloquially named “Ozempic butt” and “Ozempic body.” Because of the comprehensive nature and proven efficacy of this treatment, variations of tummy tucks have risen in popularity in recent years. Preparation
To ensure a smooth treatment process and optimal outcomes, we will provide you with detailed preoperative instructions. If you take medications and/or supplements that thin the blood, we will recommend that you stop temporarily. You will also need to stop drinking alcohol for 24-48 hours before and after the procedure. If you smoke, you should stop for several weeks. We also recommend that patients arrange for a trustworthy adult to drive them home after the procedure and care for them for the first 24-48 hours of their recovery. Many patients also prepare their meals ahead of time and prepare their homes for a comfortable recovery.
Procedure
After the administration of anesthesia, your surgeon will then make an incision on the front and back of the lower torso to access the underlying tissue and muscles. They will remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen, sides, and lower back, and tighten the muscles to enhance the core and flatten the belly.
Once this is complete, your skin will be redraped and sutured, creating a smooth appearance. The procedure typically takes several hours and may be performed alongside other body contouring treatments. The team at Austin Plastic Surgeon will work with precision to ensure the most aesthetically pleasing outcome possible.
Recovery
During your recovery, you may experience swelling, bruising, and/or mild discomfort. The Austin Plastic Surgery team will provide detailed instructions to guide you through each stage of recovery. We will let you know when you can return to work. Most patients return to non-strenuous activities after two to three weeks. Full recovery can take up to six weeks or longer, depending on your treatment plan and the amount of tissue we remove from the abdomen.
Results
You can enjoy an improvement in your appearance as your skin heals and swelling subsides. When performed by a trained professional, circumferential tummy tucks are associated with high patient satisfaction rates. (3) Once healing is complete, you can enjoy a more toned, sculpted figure and more balanced proportions. Scars will fade over time, and you can easily conceal them with clothing. You should maintain a healthy lifestyle to help preserve the transformative results of your circumferential tummy tuck for years to come.
Corresponding Procedures

To achieve a more comprehensive transformation, many patients combine their circumferential tummy tuck with additional procedures such as liposuction, arm lifts, or thigh lifts. During your consultation, the Austin Plastic Surgeon team will be happy to discuss whether combining procedures could help you reach your body goals more efficiently.
An auto-augmentation is often combined with a butt lift or circumferential tummy tuck. This allows your plastic surgeon to use the skin and fat that is being excised to enhance your buttocks. With weight loss and/or “Ozempic butt,” patients are often trying to restore the volume in their buttocks that they lost. They want something natural but subtly sexy. Combining the auto-augmentation of the buttocks with a butt lift or circumferential abdominoplasty gives patients a very natural but athletic appearance.

FAQ
What is a circumferential tummy tuck?
A circumferential tummy tuck is an advanced surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat around the entire midsection, not just the front of the abdomen.
How long does a circumferential tummy tuck take?
Most circumferential tummy tucks take between 4 to 6 hours, depending on the complexity and any additional procedures performed.
Is a circumferential tummy tuck painful?
Patients typically experience mild to moderate discomfort, which may be managed with prescribed pain medications and proper post-op care.
Are the results of a circumferential tummy tuck permanent?
If you maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle, the results of a circumferential tummy tuck are long-lasting.
Will my circumferential tummy tuck involve liposuction?
Liposuction is not always employed for tummy tuck procedures. If you have stubborn deposits of fat that do not respond to dieting or exercise, then we may include liposuction in your treatment to achieve optimal results.
Will a circumferential tummy tuck leave scars?
Because a circumferential tummy tuck requires incisions, there will be some scarring. This will fade over time, and our surgeons use advanced techniques to minimize scarring and its visibility.
What anesthesia is used in a circumferential tummy tuck?
These procedures are normally performed with a patient under general anesthesia. However, local anesthetics and IV sedation may also be used. During your consultation, you and your surgeon will discuss your anesthesia options and preferences.
Are there any non-surgical alternatives to a circumferential tummy tuck?
Patients may be able to see subtle improvements with various non-surgical body contouring procedures. However, the results will not be as significant or as permanent as those from a surgical procedure.
