About Cellulite

Cellulite appears when the fibrous tissue bands (septae) that connect your skin to deeper tissues pull down on the skin barrier, resulting in an uneven, dimpled skin texture. The fibrous bands are there to hold your skin in place, but when your fat is under pressure, these dimple-like depressions begin to form. (2)

What Factors Contribute to Cellulite Development?

Cellulite is a stubborn condition with many factors that contribute to its development. Genetics play a significant role, as they determine the distribution of fat cells in the skin’s structure. Similarly, hormonal fluctuations, particularly the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, can also affect fat deposition and connective tissue integrity. Lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise habits, and smoking can all have an impact, and the condition can also become more prominent with age. This is because aging leads to a decrease in collagen and elastin production, causing skin laxity and loss of firmness, which can exacerbate the appearance of cellulite. Finally, poor circulation and lymphatic drainage can also play a role, leading to fluid retention and swelling, further accentuating cellulite dimpling.

Avéli Cellulite Treatment

Avéli is FDA-approved and minimally invasive, reducing the appearance of cellulite with a one-time treatment. This treatment has long-lasting skin-smoothing results and will help you minimize the look of uneven skin in key problem areas such as the thighs and the buttocks.

How Does Avéli Work?

Avéli is a specially designed device that is placed through a small incision into the subcutaneous tissue, and targeting the fibrous bands responsible for the dimpled appearance of cellulite. With precise guidance, this treatment helps to release the fibrous bands that accentuate the cellulite while simultaneously stimulating the growth of new collagen, resulting in smoother and firmer skin. The beauty of the device lies within its selectivity, allowing your provider to only remove the bands causing cellulite while leaving important structural bands in place.

After Massive Weight Loss: Combination Treatments

Many patients undergoing weight loss journeys with medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide often seek combined treatments to maximize their aesthetic transformation. These combination approaches address multiple aspects of their concerns, including cellulite reduction with Avéli and other treatments that improve skin sagging in the buttocks (“Ozempic butt”) and legs. Common combinations patients can add to their cellulite treatment include:

Benefits of Cellulite Treatment

Cellulite treatment can not only improve the appearance of your skin for long-term results but can also help you feel more confident and comfortable in your body. The benefits of Avéli also include the following:

  • Smoother skin texture
  • Reduced appearance of cellulite
  • Enhanced collagen production
  • Improved skin quality
  • Longer-lasting reduction of cellulite

Candidates

If you are looking for a solution to cellulite dimples, you are likely a good candidate for Avéli. You may not be the best candidate for this procedure if you are currently pregnant or have a history of diabetes, blood clotting conditions, tumors, or hypertension. Avéli cannot address excessive skin laxity or fat, which may be better treated with combination medspa services such as skin tightening or non-surgical fat reduction with devices like Morpheus or Eon. Some patients may also be better candidates for a surgical procedure to address these concerns such as liposuction, a thigh lift, or buttock augmentation with implants or fat transfer (BBL). We will discuss all of your options at your personal consultation at Austin Plastic Surgeon to determine the right treatment for your needs.

Personal Consultation

During your initial consultation, we will discuss your medical history to determine the best treatment or combination of treatments to reduce your cellulite. Next, we will discuss your expectations and the results we can achieve depending on its severity and location. We will also need to discuss your medical history and any medications you are taking that could affect the treatment. We will provide comprehensive, personalized instructions for you to prepare for your treatment depending on your unique treatment plan.

Procedure

The Avéli cellulite treatment system addresses the underlying cause of cellulite: fibrous bands pulling on the skin and creating dimples. We will provide a local anesthetic and make a tiny incision to insert the Avéli device into the treatment area in a very discreet location underneath the buttocks. The device will release the problematic bands underneath your skin for immediately noticeable results. A standalone Avéli procedure is minimally invasive, and the time it will take will depend on the amount of cellulite you have and your unique body proportions. The procedure can take as little as 45 minutes depending on the area you would like to treat.

Recovery & Results

Cellulite, Austin Plastic Surgeon, San Antonio, West Lake Hills

Due to Avéli’s minimally invasive nature, you will not need to spend a long time recovering. Most patients return to work the day after their procedure and are consistently happy with their results. Because we must release tension beneath the skin, you may experience some mild discomfort or tenderness after the local anesthetic wears off.

After your Avéli treatment, you will see results immediately and will be able to enjoy the full effects 4-6 weeks after your procedure to allow time for any bruising and swelling to subside.. Over the next 1-3 days, the skin will settle and any discomfort will subside. Avéli has one of the highest success rates of all cellulite treatments and the results are long-lasting.
