The question of what’s better, the alloClae or skinny BBL, is super common. There are a lot of patients who don’t have enough fat for a BBL or have targeted areas that they’re trying to enhance, like their buttocks or hips. AlloClae is a revolutionary treatment—it is the first body filler.
It’s got a lot of structural strength, so it’s able to shape and sculpt in a way that we’ve never been able to do with an off-the-shelf product before. It has a lot of natural properties that make it super attractive, because a lot of our patients love natural techniques and products that can enhance their bodies naturally.
The skinny BBL has always been so popular because a lot of our patients are fit—they’ve been living their fabulous life! But for patients who are a little bit more ‘square’ or feel like they don’t have the actual shape that they want, a skinny BBL is a way to do a total body transformation.
And that’s something that at this point, alloClae can’t do, because it’s really the summation of subtracting the waist, sculpting the abdomen, and then using the filler in a very targeted way to enhance the hip dips, enhance the butt. There’s still a limit to the amount of enhancement and product with alloClae that we can use. Even in a skinny BBL, we typically can get anywhere between 300 and 600 cc of fat to use for hip dip or butt enhancement, which is necessary to really shape the hip dips, shape the butt, and really sculpt them.
But it’s more than that, because with a skinny BBL, it’s really the summation of being able to subtract the waist and then do the addition to the hip dips and butt, and that’s where people see these changes. Because when you can take down the waist and then add to the hips and butt, you get more of a shape change. If you’re only adding product to the hips, you have to add a significant amount of alloClae to be able to make a change.
They’re both great options. You’re going to see these concepts evolving, where patients are doing pre-expansion—pre-treating areas with a small amount of alloClae to help shape and prepare the area the way that they want to.
So in summary, I think that if people have enough fat—if they have areas that we need to sculpt—a skinny BBL is still one of the mainstay treatments for this total body transformation. However, alloClae is a great alternative for patients who either don’t have enough fat or want to do the treatment in combination with a skinny BBL.
