Expectations
First, you will have an initial consultation with one of our plastic surgeons to discuss pre- and post-operative instructions and determine your unique needs. During the consultation, our plastic surgeon will review the process for a breast augmentation along with helping you decide on the appropriate size for your breast augmentation. You will have the opportunity to do our sizing system. This is an opportunity to try on implants so that you have the opportunity to see what they will look and feel like before the surgery. As this is a surgical procedure, you will need to follow a few pre-surgical precautions, including refraining from smoking and avoiding certain medications to reduce the risk of complications.
During the procedure, you will undergo anesthesia. Our team will perform one of these incisions based on your needs:
- Transaxillary, an incision in the underarm
- Periareolar, an incision on the areola
- Inframammary, an incision on the underside of the breast
Immediately after the surgery, your breasts will appear fuller and firmer. Over time, your incision scars will fade or disappear. Following the procedure, our team recommends rest and relaxation. You will experience some discomfort, which over-the-counter medication can relieve. Swelling, bruising, and tenderness are normal, and you may experience tingling, numbness, or a burning sensation in the nipples, which will fade with time.
After 1-2 weeks, you can return to regular activity, including work and light exercise. However, you should avoid vigorous activity for at least a month. Swelling can last up to a year, but most individuals are unaware of the residual inflammation after a few months. You will have several follow-up visits with our team to monitor your recovery process.
