There has been a lot of recent news about the new FDA approved cellulite treatment called Cellfina. What is the procedure?
Cellfina is an in-office procedure that treats the cause of cellulite. Cellulite is cause by fibrous bands that tether the skin and lead to dimpling. Cellfina is one of the few treatments that is specifically targeted toward the cause of cellulite.
The areas most commonly treated with Cellfina are the butt and thighs. These are also the most common areas in which people have cellulite.
The procedure is done with special suction cups that lift the skin while the bands causing the dimpling are released. The release of the constriction bands allows the skin to lift and smooth out over time.
The current studies have shown that over 93% of patients have had results that have lasted over three years. This makes sense since the process actually treats the underlying cause of cellulite.
The treatment can be done in the office under local anesthesia in about an hour. Occasionally, we have patients that are undergoing another procedure such as a Brazilian Butt Lift and they can have the Cellfina treatment at the same time as their butt augmentation.
Patients typically return to work or their daily activities the day after the procedure. They can have some bruising, but usually tolerate the procedure extremely well.
