What is the Difference Between a Butt Augmentation and a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Butt augmentation is a relatively new procedure that has gained in popularity over the past several years, however there are several terms that are used to describe the various procedures and often can be confusing.

Butt Augmentation:
This is a general term that is used to describe any surgery that increases the size of the buttock. This can be done with fat injections (Brazilian Butt Lift) or with implants.

Brazilian Butt Lift:
Is fat transfer to the buttock, this procedure has become so popular because it enables your plastic surgeon to transform your entire shape. Liposuction is performed over several areas depending on the individual patient needs, but typically of the flanks, abdomen, back and thighs.

The fat is then processed and used to augment the buttock. So even though it is called a butt lift, the purpose is to augment the buttock. This fill or enhancement is what allows your surgeon to lift your buttock.

Butt Lift:
This is another general term that includes any surgery that lifts the buttock. The lift can be done by augmenting (with fat or implants) or surgically lifting the butt.

Fat Transfer:
Fat transfer is basically the Brazilian Butt Lift. It is the use of the fat to augment, shape and lift the buttock. The fat is liposuctioned from various parts of the body and then transferred to the buttock.

I would recommend that you see a board certified plastic surgeon that performs a significant amount of these procedures so they can help guide you to the surgery that will be best for you.

I hope this helps. Contact us for more information or to schedule your initial consultation.
